Karachi: Special Public Prosecutor Abdul Maroof on Friday submitted an application in Anti-Terrorism Court-III for recording statement of complainant in kidnapping case of a Chinese citizen. Maroof submitted before the court that complainant MA Chaun had gone to China. He said under amendments of 503 (2B) CRPS 1898, a commission should be constituted for recording statement of the complainant or to allow the Embassy of Pakistan in China to record the statement of complainant and also forward the same to the honourable court, and in this regard the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan be issued directives.
The hearing was adjourned to January 13, 2014. Accused Haifeng had abducted one Yugang Bai for ransom on 6th January 2013 from DHA Karachi. Police said Haifeng told Bai’s wife that her husband was kidnapped by Taliban militants on January 1 and for his release Rs10 million ransom be arranged.
However, the kidnapped man was release on January 13 without payment of ransom and the police arrested accused Haifeng for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping. A case (FIR No. 15/13) was registered under Sections 365-A (kidnapping for ransom) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at the Darakhshan police station.
