Karachi: Visiting Afghanistan U-19 cricket team scared host Pakistan before conceding a close 17-run defeat on Thursday at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Chasing a competitive total of 238 runs, Afghanistan looked in command of the match till Hashmatullah Shahidi was standing on crease with Nasir Ahmadzai. The duo put on board 91 runs during their fifth wicket partnership.
However, when the victory looked just around the corner, Afghanistan lost Hashmatullah (82) with 205-5 runs on board and 25 balls remaining. Nasir (44) soon followed with Afghanistan trailing at 212-6. The local bowlers then toyed with tail-enders and bundled them out for 221 runs in 44.1 overs. Zia-ul-Haq, Irfanullah Shah, Zafar Gohar and Karamat Ali took two wickets each.
Earlier, the host scored 238-9 in allotted 45 overs with skipper Sami Aslam scoring 71 and Saud Shakeel 43. Abdullah Adil and Zia-ur-Rehman took two wickets each.
