Karachi: Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP) President Haider Khan Lehri and chief selector Maroof-ul-Hasan Tuesday announced the squad for the upcoming Asian U-19 Men’s Championship, which will run from December 1-7 in Chaiyaphum, Thailand.
Afraaz Ahmed is named to lead the national men’s U19 in the tournament. The team is scheduled to leave for Thailand on November 29. Pakistan will face host Thailand on December 2 in its first match of the tournament.
Apart from host Thailand and Pakistan, U19 teams of Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore will also be seen in action during the tournament.
Teams’ manager Asif Azeem said that the participation of Pakistan’s junior players will be very helpful in promoting the game of softball in the country.
“Many foreign teams are participating in the tournament and when our junior player will play against those teams, their morale would be boosted and they would also learn from their counterparts a lot,” Asif said.
He added that this is the first time that the Pakistani colts would be featuring in this Asian Championship and hoped that the national players would regularly get such chances in future as well.
Apart from Asif, seven more officials would be accompanying the 17-member squad for the tournament.
