Karachi: A large number of teachers of Karachi staged a protest demonstration against non-payment of their 36-day allowance by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Sindh despite the passage of nine months.
The protest demonstration was organized by Government and Nationalized School Teacher’s Association Karachi on Monday outside the Karachi Press Club. The protesters showed t deep concerns about delaying tactics of ECP officials in this regard.
The protest leader Syed Ahmed said around 20,000 teachers of Karachi who performed house counting and voters’ verification duties on the directives of ECP from 10 January to 16 February 2013, in far-flung areas of city despite poor law and order situation are still waiting for release of their 36 stipend.
He said regretted the delaying tactics of officials and warned that if their allowance was not released they will be compelled to boycott the upcoming Local Bodies Election duties in city.
He appealed to o the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Provincial Chief Election Commissioner to ensure early release of their allowance.
Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz, Ch Akhtar Hussain, Faiz ur Rehman, Muhammad Rafiq, Muhammad Yousuf, Muhammad Tariq and Syed Islam Shah and other leaders were also present.
