KARACHI: On the directives of Sindh food minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar, a special team of provincial food department paid a surprise visit to various flour mills in Karachi and issued show-cause notices to three of them on allegations of selling substandard wheat flour at higher rates and short in measure.
The special team headed by Director food Sindh Muzammil Halepoto paid the surprise visit to various flour mills and issued show-cause notices to Iqra Flour Mills, Hafeez Flour Mills and MSK Flour Mills on charges of selling substandard wheat flour at higher rates than fixed by food department Sindh and flour bags were also found short in measure.
Besides this, the provincial minister said in a statement on Tuesday that all measures had been taken to ensure flour sale at government rates.
He said 1000 sacks of wheat had only been increased for those flour mills selling flour in open market at government rates, while strict actions were being taken against those elements selling flour at higher rates. He said due to measures of Sindh food department, the stability has been observed in flour prices while wheat was also being provided to all flour mills according to the needs and population of the region.
