Three militants among four killed in Karachi

Karachi: Four people were killed and one policeman injured in separate incidents of violence and police encounters in the city on Thursday. A criminal investigation department (CID) team led by SSP Chaudhry Aslam conducted a raid along Northern Bypass in Manghopir area and claimed to have killed three militants while a policeman also suffered injury.

According to police, acting on a tip-off, the police team conducted raid in Manghopir and cordoned off a house used by militants as hideout. The criminals started firing at police party which was retaliated and after a brief encounter three suspects were held in injured condition. They were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi where they succumbed to their injuries during initial treatment in emergency ward.

The police claimed that they belonged to banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and they had been planning to carry out a terror attack in the city on the occasion of 8th Rabiul Awwal.

The police also recovered a car loaded with explosives along with a huge cache of firearms after thoroughly searching the hideout. The killed militants were identified as Imran, Mairaj and Shahab while the identity of the injured cop could not be ascertained.

In another incident, unidentified men opened fire in Abbas Town and shot dead one Habibullah, 42, son of Sadarullah. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for autopsy.
