The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Somali Government signed here on Tuesday a headquarters agreement for the OIC Regional Mission in Somalia, in implementation of the resolutions of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the recent Islamic Summit in Makkah.
In a letter sent to Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, OIC Secretary-General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen affirmed the Organization's determination to harness all its potential to support the Somali government's efforts to achieve political stability, lasting peace and economic development in the country.
The message was handed over by OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Affairs Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit, during his meeting and the accompanying delegation with Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Mohammed Gulaid, at the headquarters of the Somali Council of Ministers in Mogadishu.
During the visit, the OIC delegation met with Foreign Minister Ahmed Ise Awad and discussed with him the bilateral cooperation between the Organization and Somalia and means of supporting the Horn of Africa nation in all areas of joint cooperation.
The delegation also met with Minister of Education Abdirahman Dahir Osman, where they discussed areas of joint cooperation and the importance of benefiting from the higher education scholarship programs offered by the member states through the OIC, as well as from the support of the Islamic finance institutions and member states for the infrastructure of the education sector in Somalia.
Further, the delegation met with Minister of Humanitarian and Disaster Management Maryam Qasim Ahmed, and discussed with her the development projects being carried out by the OIC through its Mogadishu office and its partners, especially the King Salman's Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid (KSrelief), the Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF) and Somalia's humanitarian organizations.
