Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui on Wednesday discussed with his American counterpart Mike Pompeo issues of common interest, especially international efforts aimed at finding a solution to the Libyan crisis.
According to the Tunisian Foreign Ministry, the two ministers stressed the importance of working to restore stability in Libya and the need for greater support to the efforts of United Nations Envoy Ghassan Salame, so as to reach a comprehensive and consensual political solution in accordance with the UN Action Plan.
Agence Tunis-Afrique Presse (TAP) reported that Minister Jhinaoui was in Washington to participate in the 3rd session of Tunisia-US Strategic Dialogue. He held talks on July 16-17 with US congressmen, during which they emphasized the need for a ceasefire in Libya and resumption of the political process under the aegis of the UN.
They also affirmed the need for the international community to play a more effective role to put an end to the Libyan crisis and halt its serious consequences on neighboring countries and the region.
