Lahore: The President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry Engineer Sohail Lashari has urged the masses to play their role for the cause of the disabled persons so that they could become active members of the society.
He was speaking at a function organized by the Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) on the occasion of National Day for Women with Disabilities. LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Tariq Misbah, LABARD Joint Secretary Saeed Khan, Naghmana Javed, LABARD Founder member Rehmatullah Javed and other members of the governing body also spoke on the occasion.
Engineer Sohail Lashari said that the private sector was quite conscious of its responsibilities therefore it would continue to make efforts to eliminate the menace of disability.
He said that millions of Pakistani people are bearing some kind of disability and a number of disabled persons become beggars due to lack of proper attention of concerned departments. He said that with a little attention these people could become an active part of the society.
The LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Tariq Misbah said that developed countries are giving special attention to the disabled persons. Not only buildings have special ramps but also facilities are being provided at all public places. He said that disabled persons in Pakistan are facing many difficulties due to lack of proper attention. He said that government should divert his attention towards the issue and ensure proper facilities at all buildings and public places.
LABARD Joint Secretary Saeed Khan said that disabled persons could play a special role for prosperity of the country as they have some special God gifted abilities. He said that there are many examples that disabled persons have done some excellent jobs so they should not leave the optimism and work with new zeal.
The LABARD has also arranged jobs for these disabled persons with an objective to give them courage to stare in the eyes of physical disability they have been suffering with.
The Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) has so far arranged jobs for hundreds of disabled persons.
At the LABARD, a number of services including medical assistance, counseling of mentally disabled persons, speech therapy, Qarz-e-Hasana and crutches, tricycles are being provided absolutely free of cost. The number of disabled persons who got themselves, registered with the LABARD for availing these facilities, is now in thousands.
