LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had decided to field Shaista Pervaiz Malik for NA-133 by-election to be held on 5 December 2021. Shaista is MNA on a reserved seat for women.

The NA-133 seat fell vacant after the death of her husband and PML-N leader Pervaiz Malik. Mr Malik had defeated PTI leader Ejaz Chaudhry in the 2018 general election with a margin of some 12,000 votes.

The Election Commission has announced the date for the by-election on this seat on Dec 5. Candidates have been advised to file their nominations by Oct 25. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be conducted on Oct 30.

The ECP notification says: “No government or authority shall post or transfer any official in the district where the schedule for byelection in NA-133 is announced till the publication of name of returned candidate. No government functionary or elected representative including a local government functionary shall announce any development scheme for the constituency where election is under process till Dec 5.”
