Punjab Information and Culture Department gathered data of 1000 artistes to promote performing arts

LAHORE:Department of Information and Culture is developing a database of artists for the first time to promote all forms of performing arts such as theatre, music, and film.

The basic objective of the database is to develop a digital digest that can be used to tap talent from all over the province and to engage artists in different projects the arts councils initiate from time to time.

Provincial Minister for Culture Punjab Khayal Ahmad Kastro said that the Punjab Council of the Arts (PUCAR) is gathering the data with the help of its 11 divisional arts councils. By now almost 1,000 artists have registered themselves from all over Punjab.

He added that this is an attempt to make a systematic artists mapping mechanism that would help us to ensure transparency in the disbursement of funds, grants, subsidies, quota facilities, and other benefits, and also to create employment opportunities for the artist community in their respective fields and vicinity. It will also be used in the assistance of different projects such as the Artists Support Fund. We are going to appoint ambassadors in every district for cohesive networking and coordination with the help of this database, he said.

Secretary Information, Raja Jahangir Anwer said that the digitization process started in January 2021 and will soon be completed. Initially, we wanted to regulate the commercial theatre artists and directors with the help of a proper database, but now it has been decided to broaden the database and ensure that talent from all over Punjab should be acknowledged and registered with the government.
