LAHORE: Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah and his theatre group will be in Lahore in the first week of December, 2013 for stage performances at Alhamra, The Mall.
Shah and his theatre organisation, Motley Theatre, will be in the provincial metropolis on the invitation of the Faiz Foundation Trust. The event is being organised to raise funds for Faiz Ghar, the Faiz Museum and Cultural Centre, run by the Faiz Foundation Trust in Model Town.
The Faiz Foundation Trust, Naseeruddin Shah and his theatre organisation, Motley Theatre, will jointly present English and Urdu plays from Dec 5 to 8, 2013. The first play ‘A Walk in the Woods’ directed by Ratna Pathak Shah, starring Naseeruddin Shah and RajitKapur will be staged for two days on Dec 5 and 6, 2013. The play ‘A Walk in the Woods’ is about two diplomats, in the middle of peace talks, who take a private walk in the woods trying to achieve a breakthrough in the muddled negotiations between their countries.
The play’s premise springs from history – in 1982, the negotiators Paul H. Nitze (USA) and Yuli A. Kvitsinsky (USSR) left their official Geneva sessions for an unofficial “walk in the woods” and achieved a breakthrough, soon rejected by their governments.
On Dec 7 and 8, 2013, they will perform in three plays, including Bade Bhai Sahab and ShatranjKeKhiladi, both directed by Naseeruddin Shah. Both the plays are based on the short stories of famous Indian writer Prem Chand. Sankraman (The Circle of Life) is the third play by Kamtanath.
Bade Bhai Sahab is the tale of two brothers, narrated in the first person by the younger about his elder sibling while ShatranjKeKhiladi is a satire set in the days just prior to 1857 about two indulgent feudal lords obsessed with the game of chess at the cost of everything else.
Sankraman is the story of a couple and their son set in a middle class home of Uttar Pradesh. It shows how many of us, on hitting the middle age, are often startled by memory flashes of our own parents and by how similar to them we have unconsciously begun to sound or look or behave.
