LCCI ready to support Punjab Govt. for 3-day International Labour Convention

Lahore: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry is ready to extend full support to three-day International Labour Convention being arranged by Punjab government in March 2014 in Lahore.

The LCCI Acting President Mian Tariq Misbah was talking to Commissioner PESSI Farhan Aziz Khawaja and Director General Labour Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry. LCCI Vice President Kashif Anwar, EC Members Mian Zahid Javaid, Khawaja Khawar Rasheed, Mumshad Ali, Muhammad Aslam, Raja Hamid Riaz, Maqsood Ahmad Butt and Tanvir Ahmad Sufi also

spoke on the occasion. The LCCI Acting President said that it was great initiative of the Punjab Government that would help bring foreign investment and enhance exports. He said that the proposed three day convention would also provide an opportunity to foreign entrepreneurs to have firsthand knowledge about Pakistan’s level compliance of international standards. Mian Tariq Misbah said that it was the most opportune time to showcase our abilities to the international community. He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry would take on board all other chambers of commerce in Punjab and their representatives would be incorporated in the core committee to be formed to finalise International Labour Convention.

“The LCCI is willing to take lead role for the three-day international convention.”He said, “we are an excellent nation, we are international standards compliant, our products are best of the best but the unfortunate part is that we have failed to showcase these potentials. Now is the time to tell the world that we have best brains and are producing quality products.”

Earlier, the Commissioner PESSI Farhan Aziz Khawaja and DG Labour Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry gave a detailed briefing to the LCCI office-bearers and Executive Committee members about the proposed International Labour Convention. LCCI Executive Committee Member Mumshad Ali, speaking on the occasion, suggested that the Convention should be linked to Auto Show scheduled for March 2014. He also said that Lahore’s strategic location should also be highlighted at the convention as it is of great attraction for the potential investors. Tanvir Ahmad Sufi and Maqsood Ahmad Butt urged the Commissioner to
take Ministry of Education on board also as the curriculum issue is being faced by the industry.
