PIAF urges SNGPL authorities to restore gas supply to industrial sector

Lahore: Pakistan Industrial & Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has expressed grave concern over sudden suspension of gas supply to the industrial sector and urged the authorities concerned to restore the supply at the earliest.

In a press statement issued here Monday, Chairman PIAF Malik Tahir Javed said that gas is being supplied to only textile industry.

He said that gas load shedding would push the industry to the wall, as the industrial sector is already facing huge problems owing to deteriorating law and order situation, high input cost and high markup etc. Therefore, he said that the government should give priority to all sectors of industry.

PIAF Chairman said that load shedding of gas would badly hit the industrial sector.

He said that gas load shedding would bring economic activities to a grinding halt so the government should give priority to all industries in order to revive economical activities in the country.

Chairman PIAF feared that the government would not be able to get full advantage of the GSP Plus status unless and until it ensures provision of gas to all industrial sectors that are suffering heavily only because of unavailability of this important raw material.

He said that it was very unfortunate that textile sector was getting gas as per promise against the others that consume less gas.

Malik Tahir Javed said that closure of gas would render millions of people jobless therefore there was a dire need that the government should direct the SNGPL authorities to reset its priorities regarding provision of gas; otherwise situation would get out of hand.

He said that the gas stoppage is a well-calculated and well thought-out conspiracy against the present regime that was doing its best to facilitate the business community.
