SIBI: Conducting local bodies polls in Balochistan was not less than a challenge for the government in office. Negative elements struggled a lot to stop lb polls but they could not succeed in their dirty designs.
These views were expressed by provincial Local government Minister Sardar Mustafa Tareen while addressing Local bodies convention 2014 at the lawn of Governor House here Friday.
Provincial ministers Nawab Muhammad Khan Shahwani, Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Rehmat Saleh Baloch, Provincial spokesman Jan Muhammad Buledi, Adviser Obedullah Babat, MPA Manzoor Ahmed Kakar, Secretary Local Government Kazim Niaz Khan Commissioner Sibi division Sher Khan Bazai and others attended.
Mustafa Tareen said credit of holding LB convention on eve of Sibi mela after pretty long time goes to present government. He said it would be our endeavour to further improve Sibi mela next year so that our old traditions are highlighted.
He aid committee would soon be formed to strengthen and sustainable so that no wastage of funds is there and people benefit form results. He said it is painful previous government took no steps for welfare of the people and problems and corruption increased immensely. But out government was taking practical measures on priority for resolving problems and elimination of corruption and a difference is visible on ground.
He directed concerned departments to prepare feasibility report of problems confronting so that practical measures could be adopted.
He announced Rupees 20 million for Municipal committee and announced that Rupees 5 million would soon be released for scholarships of girl and boy students.
Addressing the ceremony provincial Secretary Local government Kazim Niaz said that first phase of local bodies polls has been completed successful while talks would be held with Election Commission on nomination of Chairmen and vice Chairmen on March 7. He said programme to impart modern training to newly elected councillors would soon be started after which they would serve the people better.
Earlier Commissioner Sibi Division in his address of welcome said that population in Sibi has spread upto three kilometres touching one hundred thousand souls mark. He hoped that provincial government would take positive steps for addressing problems of sewerage, drinking water, education and health.
