Lt Gen Munir Afsar Appointed NADRA Chairman

The federal government has appointed Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar as the chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

The approval for his appointment came during a meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Monday.

The cabinet was informed that the selection committee had shortlisted names of the three best candidates for the post. After detailed consideration, the cabinet approved the appointment of Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar as the new chairman of NADRA. Subsequently, the Ministry of Interior issued a notification for his appointment.

He takes over the position of chairman from Asad Rehman Gilani who assumed the charge in June after Tariq Malik resigned from the post citing a “charged and polarized political environment.”

It is pertinent to mention here that the newly appointed NADRA chairman was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in October last year.
