NAB is actively pursuing mega corruption cases, Acting chairman NAB

Peshawar: Acting Chairman NAB Rear Admiral (R) Saeed Ahmad Sargana has said that a committee under his chairmanship is actively pursuing mega corruption cases pending since long adding that beside enforcement, our main focus is on awareness and prevention aspect of NAB strategy to control corruption with the help of civil society.

This, he said, while taking to media-men on the eve of a seminar on “The role of civil society in elimination of corruption” held at NAB (KP) this morning. Governor (KP) engineer Shaukatullah was the Chief Guest. Acting Chairman NAB said that under Prevention Regime, NAB has so far scrutinized projects worth Rs.1600 Billion and saved Rs. 300 Billion by removing loopholes in these projects. He said that NAB is making all out efforts to create awareness in the society about the ill-effect of corruption, saying that NAB has established 4000 character Building societies in Educational Institutions and NAB is planning to establish Anti-Corruption Committees at District, Tehsil and Union Council level through new local Govt bodies to involve all segments of the society in fight against corruption. He appreciated NAB (KP) for arranging so many activities for the awareness of masses about the ill effects of corruption.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Social Welfare & Women Development Govt of (KP) Mr. Azmat Hanif Orakzai, who is the architect of the “Right to Information Act, 2013” passes by (KP) Assembly disclosed that in the global ranking “Right to Information Act” of (KP) Govt stood No. 3 best law among 92 laws of the world by securing 143 marks out of 150 in the RTI rating methodology which he said is a great achievement. The rating was done by Center for Law and Democracy Canada. He added that the law has a provision for protection of Whistle Blowers, and it will ensure transparency, fair play in the public and private sector by making the public office holder accountable to the society.

Ms. Faryal Ali Gohar, Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations said that whosoever is a silent spectator and did not raise voice corruption, malpractices and injustice in the society was equally corrupt because he was making corruption to is soul and intellect. He urged upon the society to blow whistle for the rights of vulnerable segment of the society.

Mr. Rustam Shah Mehmand while speaking on the occasion appreciated the efforts of NAB for the eradication of corruption and stressed the need of NAB and civil society nexus for this noble cause. DG NAB (KP) Col (R) Shahzad Anwar Bhatti in his address said that NAB under its Awareness Regime is focusing on the Character Building of Youth as a long-term strategy as well as to inculcate in them abhorrence against corruption.

He added that the future of Pakistan is bright and we will Inshallah succeed to fight this menace with the help of civil society. Additional Director NAB Col (R) Waheedullah Khan also addressed the ceremony.
