New health policy in Sindh soon, Iqbal Durrani

Karachi: Secretary Health Sindh Iqbal Hussain Durrani on Thursday said that Health Department under public-private partnership will introduce a new health policy in the province to improve performance of government hospitals.

Talking the media in his office, he said all the non-functional healthcare institutes in the province would be made functional with cooperation of private sector under the new policy.

Durrani said Health Department Sindh will constitute a committee comprising retired professors, senior doctors and other officials to look after these matters. He said Secretary Health Sindh will also work as a member in this committee.

He said a plan is also under way to appoint Medical Legal Officers (MLOs) in six more hospitals of Karachi including Sindh Government Hospital Liaquatabad, Qatar Hospital Orangi, Lyari General Hospital, New Karachi Hospital and Korangi Hospital with the establishment of emergency wards in these hospitals.

He said now MLOs are only working in three major hospitals of city: Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), Abbassi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC).

He said soon a letter would be dispatched to IGP Sindh to for the appointment of MLOs in these hospitals. He said Lady MLOs would also be appointed in hospitals to handle women-related cases of emergency wards.
