Peshawar: KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has approved a design for the establishment of a modern bus terminal to be equipped with all facilities opposite to General Bus Stands in the provincial metropolis and directed offering its construction on build-operate-Transfer (BOT) on competition basis to interested international construction companies.
He issued these directives while presiding over a meeting regarding development and beautification of Peshawar here at CM Secretariat Peshawar. Besides, Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mahmood Khan, Secretary Information and Culture Mohammad Israr, Deputy Commissioner (D.C) Peshawar Syed Zaheer-ul-Islam, Administrator Municipal Corporation Peshawar (MCP) Syed Zafar Ali Shah, Director General (DG) Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) Khushdil Khan and other concerned authorities attended.
The Chief Minister made it clear that entrance and exit of commuters’ transport from bus terminal and General Bus Stands should be in very organized manner and the G.T. Road in mid of both bus stands should remain completely clear for general vehicular traffic to manage the massive traffic on the road. The steps, he said besides getting the general public rid of the hours-long traffic jam would also resolve other difficulties for good.
He on this occasion also approved the establishment of a food street in Namak Mandi and a scheme for cleansing both sides of canals passing through inside the city particularly from Board Bazaar to Gulbahar and Ring Road and then utilizing them as alternate highways to minimize the load of traffic on the roads of the city. In this connection, the He directed the Irrigation Department, MCP and PDA for taking immediate steps.
The Chief Minister after the abolition of fish market and removal of encroachments at historic Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) also approved the installation of colourful lighting, beautification, plantation and small fountains around it, which would multiply the beauty and attraction of the Ghanta Ghar.
Similarly, he also directed starting work on the scheme for construction of double carriage road from Ramdas Bazaar to Dabgari Chowk and from Gulbahar Police Station to Anum Sanum Chowk and onward till Lahori Chock besides equipping it with solar street lights. He in this regard directed for provision of more funds to MCP in case of need besides the available funds of Rs.300 million.
DC Peshawar informed that expert construction firms of Qatar and China have approached us on governmental level for construction of Bus Terminal on BOT basis. However, the Chief Minister asked for obtaining more offers and expressions of interest to pave way for spirit of competition and better results during the process as well as made clear that delay and waste of time would never be tolerated in this regard.
He was satisfied to note that cooperation of local traders and shopkeeper’s community has been achieved during campaigns for removal of encroachments from bazaars while the people have also welcomed such anti-encroachment steps resulting to widening of roads. Pervez Khattak said that work done with sincerity and honesty always borne fruits. He said that not only the people of Peshawar but all province would soon realize pleasant changes in every sphere of life due to sincere efforts of the provincial government.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the MPAs of Dera Ismail Khan led by Provincial Agriculture Minister Ikramullah Khan Gandapur called on Pervez Khattak at Chief Minister’s Secretariat Peshawar and discussed with him various matters pertaining to developmental schemes and welfare of the masses of the area wherein a number of decisions were taken in this regard.
The Chief Minister asked the assembly members to serve the masses with dedication by keeping themselves above all political discriminations and expediencies while never to accept any pressure or enticement as he termed it worst social evils like corruption saying that it always spoiled endeavours for ensuring merit and justice.
He reiterated pledge of his PTI led coalition government that supremacy of law and merit would be never compromised anyway and people would be given social justice everywhere while our legislators would have to honour the agenda of change of PTI at every cost, he concluded.
