Peshawar: A three days International Information Technology Conference titled “Digital Youth Summit 2015” kicked off in Peshawar on Thursday. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattrak inaugurated the summit. It has been organized by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board in collaboration with World Bank Peshawar 2.0 and other partner organizations.
Besides students of IT from across the country, IT experts and delegates from Pakistan and abroad are attending the conference. The conference will provide a platform to the young generation spending the IT students of the country to get together and showcase their innovative and creative ideas with the aim to generate employment opportunities to the young innovators with particular focus on online business.
It will also help promote IT in the province and effective use of IT for civic facilitation, ensuring transparency in government affairs and improving the performance of government departments.
It will provide an opportunity for IT innovators and entrepreneurs to connect and share ideas and to educate themselves about the tech-entrepreneurship and online work as a high potential alternative to traditional jobs.
In his address to the inaugural session, the Chief Minister termed the holding of the conference as an important steps towards the promotion of IT in the province and said that IT was one of the top priority sector of the provincial government and as such it had allocated huge funds for the promotion of IT so that the young generation could be provided ample opportunities of employment, performance of government departments could be improved and transparency in government affairs could be ensure through the effective use of IT .
Touching upon the performance of his government, Pervez Khattak said that record legislations had been made during the last two years to pave way for real change in the province adding that drastic steps taken by his government to bring about change were yielding positive result and change was visible.
The session was also addressed by Senior Minister for IT, Shahram Tarakai, Secrtary IT, Farrah Hamid, Country Director World Bank Rasheed Masood and other speakers.
