Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has greatly commended the sacrifices made by the Mohmand tribal population in the war against terrorism side by side with the security forces and disclosed that the government had embarked upon a gigantic development strategy in the tribal belt in a bid to remove the destructive signs of the war on terror during the last 10 years.
He announced about Rs.5 billion uplift projects, including construction of five small dams and six irrigation projects in Mohmand Agency.
The governor was touring Mohmand Agency to review the ongoing developmental projects, to meet the tribal people, inform them of the socio-economic initiatives planned in their area and to acknowledge their efforts in the peace process.
On the first leg of his visit to Mohmand Agency, the governor went to Yadgar-e-Shuhada at Ghalanai and laid floral wreath on it to pay tributes to the martyred Pak Army jawans in their battle against terrorism.
Senator Hilalur Rahman, Additional Chief Secretary FATA Mohammad Aslam Kambwa, Secretary Education FATA Tariq Khan, Commandant Mohmand Rifles Col. Umar Haider Bukhari, PA Mohmand Waqar Ali Shah and other officers accompanied the governor during the visit.
The governor also inspected the Governor’s Model School at Ghalanai and met the staff and students. He asked certain queries from the students and teachers and learnt about the problems facing the students in this far off hilly terrain.
The governor also went to different portions, including science lab, computer lab etc of the school and issued directives to the officers on the spot for provision of latest facilities to the students.
Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan also convened a meeting of the local administrative officers at Ghalanai and strictly directed them to serve the tribal people with sincerity and true spirit rather than adopting authoritative behaviour with them.
He directed that the developmental projects should not be limited only to papers but should be completed without any delay so that the people could get benefits of the same.
He also urged the agency officers to ensure close coordination with all the parliamentarians and elders of Mohmand and took them into confidence regarding the development projects.
The governor also took serious notice of the absenteeism on the part of the staff in the education and health institutions and directed for taking strict action against all those government servants who are not joining their duties. The governor directed the political agent to ensure proper monitoring of the duties of the staff enabling the tribesmen get timely relief in connection with their problems.
Soon after the meeting, a joint delegation of the Pakistan Association for the Blinds (PAB) and Mohmand Youth Assembly (MYA), Mohmand Agency called on the governor and apprised him of their problems. The governor listened to their problems and issued directives to the ACS for removal of the same.
The governor announced setting up a Rs. 25 lakh official fund for the special people and announced Rs. 1 lakh each to two disabled and blind persons. He also directed PA Mohmand to arrange job to three disabled persons.
He also assured the youth assembly that special relief would be provided to them in doing their academic, sports and other activities in the agency. He expressed the hope that terrorism would soon vanish and the area would be converted into a peaceful developed zone.
Talking to a selected delegation of the elders of Mohmand Agency which called on him in the leadership of Senator Hilalur Rahman, Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan said the government was greatly feeling the agonies and difficulties so far endured by the tribal IDPs and assured that the affectees of war on terror would be fully backed and supported.
He said constructive activities had been started in the tribal areas and all the basic facilities in education, health, agriculture, public health, etc sectors were be provided.
A delegation of Pakistan Muslim League Mohmand Agency also met the Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan and expressed gratitude to him on coming to the area.
The governor stated that good governance was the most important for him and he would do his level best to implement good governance. He said his aim was to ensure socio-economic progress in the area side by side with establishment of new health and academic institutions.
He said the tribal belt was replete with minerals, water and agricultural resources and his first priority was to tap all the resources and ensure proper exploitation for bringing prosperity in the tribal areas.
In the last leg of his one-day tour the governor unveiled the plaque of the under-construction FM-98 Radio at Ghalanai which would be completed with an estimated cost of about Rs. 11 million.
The project would enable the people of Mohmand to listen clear radio transmission on local level. The project is being supervised by the Pakistan Army.
The governor also inspected the ongoing project of Nahqi Tunnel which is being constructed on the support of Pak Army with an estimated cost of about Rs. 750 million.
The tunnel would be 40 feet wide and 5 kilometre long that will connect Ghalanai with Bajaur. He was told that the project would bring revolutionary changes in the lives of the people of Mohmand Agency.
