Governor directs the PESCO to take urgent measures for end of load shedding

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has directed the PESCO authorities to take urgent measures for ending load shedding in the province and FATA and ensure smooth flow of electricity to the general masses on priority basis.

He was chairing a meeting with the officers of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) at the Governor’s House, Peshawar on Wednesday. Chief Executive PESCO Syed Hasan Fazil and Principal Secretary to Governor Dr. Fakhre Alam Khan were also present in the meeting. During the meeting ways and means were discussed as how to end load shedding and control the heavy line losses.

The governor directed the high officers to improve their performance and ensure transparency in the working of the department. He said those responsible for the heavy line losses and power theft should be identified and punished.

The governor said the people were passing through severe difficulties owing to heavy load shedding especially during night time and the authorities should take special measures for reducing duration of the load shedding.

He said the government had initiated many hydel generating projects and after completion of the same considerable improvement would come in this sector. However, the power theft and line losses were the two major issues which needed to be checked on war footings.

The governor was briefed on the progress so far done after the meeting with the PESCO Board of Governors last week. The governor emphasized the need for effective and coordinated method to sort out problems of long load shedding, technical faults and other hindrances in the way of smooth supply of the electricity.

He also directed for completing the ongoing projects as well as the new ones as soon as possible to enable the general masses take benefit of the same. The governor also stressed for resolving people’s grievances without any delay.
