Peshawar: Gandhara Hindko Board, a literary, cultural and social welfare organization, has welcomed the decision by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to set up a Department for Seraiki Studies at the Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the organization said Seraiki was among the important languages of the country and that of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “Department for Seraiki Studies was a longstanding demand by the Seraiki population and the KP government has taken a right decision by meeting this demand,” said Muhammad Ziauddin, a noted Hindko writer, poet, researcher and general secretary of the Gandhara Hindko Board in the statement.
He hoped the Seraiki Department would go a long way towards promotion of the Seraiki language and culture which had the unique distinction of being found in all the provinces of the country.
Ziauddin recalled that Gandhara Hindko Baord had made a demand for the Seraiki Department during a recent conference arranged in Dera Ismail Khan which was chaired by the board Chaimran Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi.
The board general secretary urged the provincial government to meet the remaining demands made by the board that include setting up Departments for Hindko Studies at the University of Peshawar and Hazara University, establishing Sain Ahmad Ali Chair at the University of Peshawar, Sain Ghulam Deen Hazarvi Chair at the Hazara University and Sain Faqir Chair at the Gomal University Dera Ismail Khan. “These forums are a must for carrying out organized research on Hindko which is second main language of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and sixth major language of the country,” he added.
