Peshawar: Deputy Director EPI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr. Janbaz Afridi has said that of all stake holders, the Provincial Information and Public Relations Department has the most vital role in making the upcoming Measles Campaign a real success and without the full support of this department, the desired results of the campaign can never be achieved in the province.
He was addressing the participants of an Orientation Session arranged for the officers of Information Department about the Measles Campaign to be launched across the province from 19th May in here on Friday.
The 12-days campaign is scheduled to be launched in all the districts of the province from 9th of this month by Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the aim to vaccinate more than 9.6 million children of the province between the age group of 6 months to 10 years to immunize them against the expected outbreak of measles as a precautionary measure.
Dr. Janbaz Afridi said that EPI has taken all the stake holders including the relevant government departments, divisional and district administrations, local political leadership, opinion makers, ulema, teachers, media and other segment of the society to make the campaign a success story.
“Being the mouth-piece of the provincial government, the Information Department has the most important and effective role to play in educating the public about the campaign, mitigating the misconceptions of people and successfully countering the rumour about such vaccination campaign”, he remarked.
The Provincial EPI Chief urged the officers of the Information to make the best use of their professional expertise and skill to motivate and mobilize the public at large to get their kids vaccinated during the campaign and said that it was not possible for health department alone to accomplish such a gigantic task and as such all the relevant government departments should play their due role in this regard taking it as a great national as well as humanitarian service for the healthy future of the nation and society.
Earlier, Dr. Rahim Khattak and Dr.Kaleem informed the participants about the disease and anti- measles campaign strategy, The participants of the orientation session were briefed about various aspects of the campaign including background, strategy, advocacy, communication, social mobilization, monitoring and supervision with special focus on the role of Information Department in this regard. The participants were also apprised of the campaign strategy at provincial, district and union council levels.
The participants gave put forward their suggestions to further improve the strategy. They highly appreciated the health department to get the Information Department involved in such an important campaign and expressed their commitment to work together with the health department to make the campaign a real success.
