Peshawar: International Information Technology Conference titled “Digital Youth Summit 2014”, began in Peshawar on Wednesday. Provincial Minister for Education Muhammad Atif Khan was chief guest in the inaugural session of the two days conference.
Besides Provincial Senior Minister for Health and IT, Shahram Khan Tarakai, and Managing Director Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IT Board (KPITB) Eng. Siddiqullah, representatives of World Bank, Vice Chancellors of various universities, academies, more than 300 delegates and IT experts from various countries, representatives of private sector, IT companies, students of IT and youths attended the event in large number. The conference has been organized by KPITB in collaboration with World Bank and a private company Peshawar 2.0.
Addressing the inaugural session, the chief guest termed the holding of the conference as a historic occasion and a great achievement of the present provincial government and said that the conference would provide ample opportunities of online business and jobs to the youth specially the IT students of the provincial government. He congratulated the KPITB for organizing such a mega event and said that it would herald a revolution in IT sector in the province.
In his address Provincial Minister for IT, Shahram Tarakai said promotion of IT and its use for knowledge based economy was the top priority of the present provincial government for which concrete and result-oriented steps were being taken and the Digital Youth Summit was one among them, he added. “The provincial government was focusing on the use of IT for ensuring transparency, good governance, efficient utilization of resources, strengthening economy and providing employment opportunities to the youth of the province”, he remarked.
In his address, MD, KPITB, Eng. Siddiqullah highlighted various aspects of the conference and informed the participants that the motto of the conference was to bring together the next generation of digital innovators in Pakistan and it was a platform for the general public to update themselves with information regarding online activities, innovation and start-ups. “The Digital Youth Summit” has two parts, a conference and an Expo and will feature three major themes which include innovation, freelancing and start-ups”, he told.
