Peshawar: Press Release Dated: 03-06-2014 NAB (KP) on Tuesday arrested Abdul Waheed Qureshi, Project Officer, Workers Welfare Board, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Asghar Awan, Owner of Ashraf Enterprises/Litigation Officer UBL State Life Building Branch and Manzoor Ahmad Ghauri, Partner in Ashraf Enterprises.
According to NAB they are allegedly involved in huge loss to state exchequer by supplying substandard equipments for science labs, stationary items, uniform etc at highly exorbitant rates with the name of fake firms, without adopting genuine bidding process. The whole process was conducted in violations of PPRA Rules and caused huge loss of Millions of Rupees to the state exchequer.
Taking cognizance of public complaints, NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorized inquiry against the accused persons which established the allegations and finally led to the arrest of the above mentioned accused persons.
It is worth mentioning here that Tariq Awan, Secretary Worker Welfare Board (KP) who is the main culprit of this mega scam is already in the custody of NAB in another case regarding scholarship fraud in WWB.
As per inquiry conducted so far millions of rupees were paid to accused Asghar Awan and Manzoor Ghauri in the name of five fake and non registered companies including Ashraf Enterprises, Monica Supply Agency etc. Heavy loss was caused to state exchequer on account of short supply and sub-standard supply of generators, Vacuum Cleaners, Electricity Equipments, Uniform etc.
The accused Asghar Awan and Manzoor Ghauri are involved in misappropriation of more than Rs. 300.00 Million in the name of supply of equipment through fake companies i.e. Ashraf Enterprises, Mexico Supply Agency, Ashraf Uniform Centre, Umer & Co, ABS Trading. Two Bank Accounts of the accused Contractors having balance of Rs. 50.00 Million also unearthed and freezed by NAB (KP).
The accused persons will be produced today before the Accountability Court Peshawar for obtaining their physical remand.
