Peshawar: NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa arrested Waqif Khan Ex-District Police Officer Mardan few days back on the charges of accumulating huge assets through corruption and corrupt practices during his service in Police Department from 1971 to 2011 which did not match to his known sources of income.
During the physical remand the accused person accepted his guilt and offered an amount Rs. 24.000 Million through Plea Bargain (PB). The application of the accused was considered in Regional Board Meeting (RBM) of NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa held under the Chairmanship of Director General, NAB (KP) on 30th May, 2014 and attended by relevant Directors and Prosecutors of NAB.
During the meeting it was observed that sufficient evidence against the accused are available and NAB has a strong case to prove in the Court of Law. After detailed deliberations, the Board decided to reject the Plea Bargain Application of the accused. At this occasion the DG NAB (KP) reiterated the stance of the NAB and said that no Plea Bargain will be accepted in such cases where the material evidence is strong / court worthy and accused punishment will be made example for other Government officials.
