Peshawar: A prayers ceremony was held in memory of the martyrs of Army Public School (APS) here in Chief Minister House, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with PTI chief, Imran Khan in the chair Wednesday.
Besides, PTI stalwart Jehangir Tareen, Speaker, KP Assembly, Asad Qaiser, Provincial Ministers Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, Shah Farman, MPAs and parents of the martyrs of APS at large attended the ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, PTI chief Imran Khan said that the sacrifices rendered by the children of Army Public School on December 16, 2014 could not be forgotten by the nation and attributed the prevailing peaceful environment in the whole country to their sacrifices.
He said that due to the sacrifices of these martyrs, he had joined hands with Nawaz Sharif and changed his stance. He said that today he is not addressing them in the capacity of politician and neither had come to you due to any political fear. But, I am in middle of the parents of martyrs in the capacity of a father and fully aware of your feelings and grievances.
The PTI chief said that he had already earlier came to share their grief and once again standing by you at this time of grief. Speaking to the parents, he told that them that the sacrifices of their children had secured the future of many children.
In response to the demands raised by the parents of the martyrs of APS, the PTI chief constituted a committee headed by Speaker KP Assembly Asad Qaiser to review progress on the implementation of their demands and will present report to him.
Regarding the demand of the constitution of Judicial Commission on APS incident, Imran Khan said that such commission could not be constituted without the consent of the federal government. However, he said he will recommend to both Pakistan Army and federal government for conferring Nishan-e-Haider or Nishan-e-Pakistan on the children.
On the demand of the establishment of University, he proposed that provincial government should construct university in memory of the martyred children while the parents should be included in its Board of Governors.
He said that instead of declaring public holiday on December 16, it would be better to observe a silence of one minute in all school to commemorate the day with solemnity.
Earlier, on behalf of the parents of APS school Abid Bangash and Khawaja Khan advocate highlighted the problems faced by them and presented several proposals for their resolution.
In his address provincial Minister for Information, Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani said that a big tragedy was occurred on December 16 which was felt by whole world. He said that the students of APS are their children, whom sacrifices could not be forgotten.
Later, Khatmul Qur’an was also held and collective prayers were offered for eternal peace of the martyrs of APS.
