Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has introduced a number of measures to curb the menace of corruption and as a result properties worth more than Rs.1 billion have been recovered from land mafia beside recovery of Rs.500 million.
This was stated by the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pervez Khattak in a statement issued here today. “As many as 472 persons have been arrested under charges of corruption from different nation building departments in the province so far”, he added.
Mr. Khattak attributed the alleged mismanagement in government departments to the corrupt politicians and bureaucracy in the past, reiterating his government pledge to halt such practices. He said, “I am committed to weed out corruption from government departments and would leave no stone unturned to achieve the task”.
In this respect, he added that a number of new laws had been introduced, which he hoped would help in curbing corrupt practices. Besides, a new law in the name of Whistle Blowers Act had been approved by the provincial cabinet and will soon be tabled in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Legislature.
The chief minister said that the Ehtesab Commission had also started working in the province which hopefully will also help in eradication of corruption both at political as well as administrative level.
Referring to his government initiatives for youth of the province, Pervez Khattak said that an amount of Rs.120 million had been allocated for “Youth Challenge Fund Project”. Under the program, financial and technical facilitation was being provided to the skilled youth of the province who were interested in starting their own business in shape of demand driven projects, he added.
The initiative was being implemented with the cooperation of SMEDA and will cover youth between the ages of 18-30. He said, Rs.2 million will be provided as initial grant to top 50 business proposals prepared by young entrepreneurs adding that currently the proposals were being verified by technical board.
