Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Health, Science and Information Technology, Shahram Khan Tarakai inaugurated Drug Information and Poison Control Centre (DIPCC) in the Department of Pharmacy , University of Peshawar on Thursday.
The establishment of DIPCC is a joint venture of ST&IT Department Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Depart of Pharmacy, university of Peshawar to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.17 million.
The project has two components i.e. establishment of DIPCC and analytical study of the interactions/reactions of the irrational use of drugs. The project is meant to provide accurate, authentic, reliable and unbiased information to the health professionals, researchers, students and the general masses with the aim to curb the irrational use of drugs. It will also help minimize the mortality and morbidity rate caused due to the irrational use of drugs. It will also help medical practitioners to provide proper treatment to patients with comparatively low expenditures.
Addressing the inaugural function, provincial minister termed the establishment of DIPCC as an important development in the field of pharmacy and healthcare and a big achievement of the provincial government and the university.
He stressed the need to replicate the project in all the tertiary care hospitals of the province. Shahram urged upon the students, faculties and managements of universities to focus more attention on research and innovation instead of the traditional means of getting education. He assured that the provincial government would extend all possible support to the students of universities for their research activities.
Earlier prof. Jamshed of the Pharmacy Department highlighted the background, objectives, benefits, components and other aspects of the project. The function was also addressed by Vice Chancellor, Peshawar University, Dr. Rasool Jan and other speakers. In the end the chief guest inaugurated the project by unveiling the plaque.
