UNHCR delegation meets CM

Peshawar: A delegation of United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) led by its Regional Head Jacques Franquin called on the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak here in CM Secretariat on Monday. During the meeting the delegation of the UN agency briefed the chief minister regarding rehabilitation program for the IDPs of FATA.

Jacques Franquin told that the UN agency in collaboration with RAHA project besides 1.6 million Afghan refugees residing in different camps in Haripur, Mardan and Azakhel is also looking after about 7 million homeless people at Jalozai IDPs camp, who belong to different tribal agencies of FATA. He said that the agency is also extending full cooperation in the repatriation and rehabilitation of IDPs to Tirah, Khyber Agency.

The chief minister while appreciating the efforts of the UN agency said that tribesmen and women are their brethren. He said that they are brave people and they well feel their grief and hardships.

Stressing on the provision of better facilities including shelter, food, health, sanitation and infrastructure, he on behalf of the provincial government offered full cooperation to the UN agency and said his govt is justified in having expectations from all relief agencies of the world body that they will give equal importance to human difficulties either they are in Pakistan or in Europe or anywhere in member states of the United Nations  so that all requirements of justice and human equality are fulfilled that will also help in increase in international solidarity.

Pervez Khattak approved with immediate effect the request for the provision of land for the establishment of a warehouse for supply of basic requirements of life to IDPs and directed the authorities concerned for selection of site at suitable location and forthwith fulfilment of other requirements.

Jacques Franquin on behalf of the UN agency expressed gratitude to chief minister for taking keen interest and assurance of cooperation. He explained that such encouragement will further boost the spirit of the employees and volunteers of the agency. On this occasion besides the UNHCR Supply Chain Officer Ms Sinvah Keveh, Liason Associate Batoor Khan, Advisor to CM Rafaqatullah Babar, Additional Chief Secretary Khalid Pervez, Principal Secretary to CM Mohammad Ishfaq Khan, Special Secretary Israr Khan and other concerned officials were also present.
