Peshawar: KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak shown apprehension that third unseen power can take wrong benefit of the suspension of peace negotiations and end of ceasefire between government and Taliban and attributed the recent terror incidents to the same signals.
He was presiding over a high level meeting regarding law and order situation here in CM Secretariat on Tuesday. Those who attended included Advisor to CM on Economic Affairs, Rafaqatullah Babar MPA Javed Nasim, Additional Chief Secretary, Khalid Pervez, Secretary Home, Syed Akhtar Ali Shah, IG Police, Nasir Khan Durrani, IG FC, CCPO, president, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI), Zahidullah Shinwari, Sharafat Ali Mubarak, Malik Niaz, Vice Chairman, KP BoIT, Mohsin Aziz, Haji Mohammad Afzal, Nauman Wazir, Commissioner Peshawar and Additional IG Special Branch.
On this occasion, the delegation of the trading and industrialist community briefed the chief minister regarding problems and demands relating to lawlessness and extortion. The chief minister assured the redressal of their problems on priority basis.
He while taking notice of the growing incidents of kidnapping for ransom and particularly extortion stressed need for taking effective measures by the Department of Home, Police, civil and political administrations. For this purpose, he also directed taking of result-oriented steps under an organized strategy. On the longstanding demand of trade and industrialist communities, the chief minister approved the establishment of modern police station in Hayatabad Industrial Estate and deployment of additional platoons of police and Frontier Constabulary (FC) in the whole area.
Terming the decade long lawlessness as basic reason of these crimes, he stressed need for collective efforts for guaranteeing security in the province and said that durable peace is the only way forward towards economic uplift. He said that they not only wanted peace in Pakistan, but also in the brotherly Islamic neighbour Afghanistan and whole region. He said that the provincial government for abolition of lawlessness and prevention of terrorism in the province is not only utilizing administrative, but also political and diplomatic means.
However, he said that all concerned federal and provincial departments should have to exhibit positive response for ensuring law and order in the country. He said that for this purpose, departments are being provided all required resources and powers.
Pervez Khattak said that Safe City Project based on latest technology was being launched that would turn the entire Peshawar district including city, cantonment and industrial estate into cradle of peace and tranquillity. He asserted that even a minor crime would then become impossible what to think about abduction and extortion bids. He directed for accelerating work on this important project. Secretary Home told that consultant has been hired who has started work on the security program and soon visible progress could be seen on it.
Chief Minister deplored that linkage of the long borders of our province with FATA and adjoining war turn neighbouring country Afghanistan has become a negative aspect for us but we had to combat challenges through foolproof security arrangements all over the province.
He while agreeing with the proposal of a joint meeting of provincial govt and traders community with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for solving important issues of banishing Afghan Sims, bringing Indian cellular companies involved in such business to obey certain rules and limitations and contacting Afghan govt for this purpose as well as resolving the fuel adjustment case, directed to contact the federal govt for the purpose.
He further assured that completion of Safe City Project, installation of CCTV camera in the city under central command, establishment of forensic science laboratories, cyber crime section, computerization of police and home department and restricting the movements of Afghan refugees would help a great deal in improving the law & order situation in the province specially in the provincial metropolis.
Pervez Khattak regretted that the rampant trends of corruption and inability in govt departments especially in police, special branch and intelligence agencies during the past regimes, paved way for terrorist and criminal elements to infuse in the folds of the people besides causing other evils.
However he said that the era of bad governance was over then. “Now all the govt departments including police have started work on a new dimension of showing performance”, he added. He said that his govt has guaranteed the heads of police and all other public sector organizations that there would no political interference with a simple condition of delivering to the masses. He assured the traders community that our police force would come up to the expectation of the people and would control all the crimes and unrests issues in the province.
He said that we all have to live here and we have to make this province a heaven for coming generations whereas we have to work hard for trade, commerce and industrial growth and economic prosperity over here.
