Peshawar: Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Shehzad Arbab ordered the formation of a restructuring committee to be headed by Additional Chief Secretary and Secretary Establishment, Secretary Finance and Naji Ullah Khattak, Media Expert as members.
The committee will review and revisit the existing functions, responsibilities and the scope of delivery of the Information Department and will define its fresh role and functions regarding projection of the provincial government activities.
This was decided in a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary at his office today. Additional Chief Secretary, Administrative Secretaries of Information, Finance, Education and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
Provincial Minister for Information Shah Farman later joined the meeting. The meeting was briefed about the in vogue system, functions, responsibilities and mobility of the Information Department.
A sketch of the function of compiling, coordinating and disseminating objective information on issues and covering areas of the department was also presented in the meeting. The meeting directed to enhance the capacity of the department to generate matching response to the present day challenges.
The meeting desired the Information Department should come out of the cocoon of primitive lines, redefine its role in the changing world, discover new avenues and initiate innovative approach in consonance with the present day needs and requirements.
The government would certainly inject new and professional blood to the existing mechanism to put the entire system of gathering compiling, disseminating objective information for the benefit of people, for whom decision making is made by the government.
The Chief Secretary directed to create linkages between Reforms Implementation Unit and Information Department for onward communication to the destination through media.
The Information Department will publicize the reforms initiatives and decisions of the provincial government through professional outfits. All such activities must carry certain attributes such as social justice, economic justice, anti status quo, right to know, equal treatment etc.
The Information Department would prepare overall communication strategy for the information strategy. Chief Secretary directed to expedite the process of injecting professionals to the gathering, compiling and disseminating system to ensure the elements of neutrality and objectivity and put the Information Department on modern lines.
