EU other Intl. donors vow to support improvement of Governance in KP

Peshawar: Expressing satisfaction over the pace of execution of work launched under the Sub-National Governance (SNG) program, the international donors-partners in development Tuesday reiterated their support to the KP government’s efforts for improving delivery and responsiveness.

The support was conveyed in the first meeting of the steering Committee of the Sub-National Governance Program held under the Chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Khalid Parvez in the Pakhtunkhwa House.

Various aspects and the pace of execution of the program were discussed in detail and the participants expressed the hope that SNGP, which is a unique initiative, will contribute a lot towards strengthening the public management system in the Province.

The program targets six districts including Buner, Haripur, Nowshera, Karrak, Lakki Marwat and D.I.Khan, on pilot basis and is aimed at establishment of a system which will enable the provincial government to respond promptly, more efficiently and accountably to the call of the communities particularly in the sectors of Health and Education.

It will support reforms in planning, budgeting and monitoring at the Provincial and District level through evidence-based identification of needs of the people using innovative techniques like GIS and cellular phones for citizens’ feedback. This will help need basis allocation of resources and its optimum utilization.

The participants appreciated the Strategic Development Partnership Framework and vowed to continue cooperation with each other on these lines. On behalf of the government of KP, the participants also included, Secretary Finance, Syed Said Badshah Bukhari, Secretary P&D Aftab Akber Durrani, Secretary Education, Afzal Latif while those from the EUROPE AID were, Director Asia Central Asia Middle East Gulf and Pacific, Dirk Meganck, Dy. Head of unit Asia and Pacific, Jos joncker and European External Action service, Michaela Wright.

The EU delegation comprised Dy Head of Delegation, Pierre Mayaudon, Head of cooperation, Berend de Groot, Head of section Rural Development and Economic Cooperation, Benoist Bazin, Head of section human Resource Development Governance, Paula Martinez, Programme Manager Governance, Eva Atanassova, Programme Manager education, Wendy Fisher, Programme Manager education, Siddique Bhatti, Programme Manager Rural Development, Giacomo Misserochi, Programme Manager Rural Development, Programme Manager Rural Development Arshad Rachid, Amaury Hoste, and Programme Manager Rule of Law, Simona Gallotta.
