KP & GB governments agree to hold Shandur festival in the 1st week of August 2015


Peshawar: A seminar on Shandur for peace and tourism was held at Peshawar on Monday. The seminar was organized by the Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP). Advisor to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tourism, Amjad Khan Afridi and Gilgit Baltistan Minister for Sports and Tourism Inayatullah Shimali were the chief guest on the occasion.

Besides others Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Minority Affairs, Sardar Suran Singh, Minister for Food Gilgit Baltistan Abdul Jehan Khan, Minsiter for Planning & Development Gilgit Baltistan Ali Murad, MPA Chitral Syed Sardar Hussain Shah, Female MPA Chitral Fozia Bibi, MD Tourism Gilgit Mushtaq Ahmad, Col. Mohammad Tahir from Chitral Scouts, journalists, poets and political and social figures also attended the seminar.

The seminar was decided to make the polo festival more colourful and the efforts should be made to organize it in a better way. On this occasion the speakers stressed to make the event most attractive for international tourists and agreed to term the year 2016, the year of tourism.

At the end of the seminar, Amjad Khan Afridi addressing a joint press conference with Inayatullah Shimali said the mutual relationship between the masses of Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral was very significant in many respects particularly due to their close traditional and cultural relations and customs which would also be continued in the future and gets stronger with each passing day.

The grievances of Gilgit Baltistan regarding polo tournament have been redressed and disputes have also been resolved. Both the provincial governments agreed to promote joint activities to make the festival successful.

Inayatullah Shimali while addressing the press conference said the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa not only determined the reservations but also has welcomed the recommendations and suggestions presented by participants of the seminar and assured that the polo tournament would be held fairly. He made it clear that both the provincial governments would alive the event through their joint efforts and there would be no complaint in this regard in future.

Syed Sardar Hussain Shah, Abdul Jehan Khan, MPA Fozia Bibi and Col. ® Mohammad Tahir also addressed the seminar and hoped that the people of both the provinces would play their role to make this cultural and traditional event successful. He assured that foolproof security arrangements would also be made on this historical event.

In the seminar, the documentary film was also presented in which the traditional aspects of Chitrali culture were highlighted and valleys of the area were introduced in the beautiful way. The speakers thanked the Tourism Corporation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the holding of graceful seminar and expressed their hope that this would be continued in future.
