Free and Fair Election vital for strengthening democratic norms in the Country: Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri

Islamabad, August 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri said that autonomy of constitutional institutions is vital for strengthening democratic norms in the society. He said that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is the most vital institution to ensure free and fair election and both opposition and government should work in consensus to make ECP more autonomous.

He also remarked that legislating for free and fair election require consensus of both opposition and government. He expressed these views while interacting with newly appointed under training Election Officers in Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS) who called on him in Parliament House today. Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri said that Imran Khan Prime Minister of Pakistan time and again invited opposition to have consensus on legislating on election amendment bill. He said that taking support of new technologies is vital for making election procedure fairer.

He said that Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) in was exhibited in Parliament House so that public representatives can have its exposure and soon this will be exhibited for masses to get their valuable feedback. He said that newly appointed Election officers have lot of potentials to serve in the best interest of ECP and Additional Secretary Legislation Muhammad Mushtaq briefed participants about formation of National Assembly, its standing committee and about Legislative process in detail.

Later on, the delegation of newly appointed Election officers visited the Hall of National Assembly and thanked the Deputy Speaker National Assembly for encouraging them and giving opportunity to Parliament House.
