Planning Minister calls for removal of Pakistan from UK’s red list

Islamabad, August 18, 2021 (PPI-OT): Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has called for removal of Pakistan from the UK’s red list as soon as possible. Talking to the acting British High Commissioner Alison Blackburne in Islamabad, he said Pakistan’s overall track record of managing the corona epidemic is much better than many other countries, which are part of the UK’s Amber List.

The Minister shared with the High Commissioner, the details of Pakistan’s strategy to combat the pandemic, which has helped the country in saving lives and livelihoods. He said Pakistan has no interest in allowing those who pose health risk to other societies to travel abroad.

Asad Umar said the details of samples sequenced during the current and last month have been shared with WHO and regular updates are also being shared. The High Commissioner appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to tackle the pandemic and to stabilize Pakistan’s economy.
