Sri Lankan Trade and Business delegation led by Minister for Trade, Sri Lanka Dr. Bandula Gunawardana, called on Governor Sindh Imran Ismail

Karachi, January 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):Sri Lankan Trade and Business delegation led by Minister for Trade, Sri Lanka Dr. Bandula Gunawardana, called on Governor Sindh Imran Ismail at Governor’s House here today, and discussed trade and investment opportunities, along with finding ways to enhance bilateral trade, economic cooperation.

Sri Lankan State Minister for Regional cooperation, Tharaka Balasuriya; Consul General of Sri Lanka in Karachi, Jagath Abeywarna; Director General of Economic Affairs at the Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka, Prof. Dr. Saj U. Mendis; Chairman, Sri Lanka state Trading Cooperation, Yogendra Perera, Director of Commerce, G. L. Gnanatheva and Commercial Consular at Pakistan High Commission at Pakistan, Ms Asma Kamal were part of the delegation. Special Assistant to PM Mahmood Moulvi on Maritime Affairs and Tariq Khan, a renowned businessman was also in attendance on the occasion.

The delegation expressed its keen interest in enhancing trade and investment ties with Pakistan besides exploring avenues in the tourism sector as well. The delegation also intended to explore avenues of cooperation and collaboration with the business community of Pakistan particularly in pharmaceutical, textiles, agriculture and value-added products.

Governor Sindh termed exchange of trade delegations the best way to improve trade and investment ties between the two sides. He also emphasized on more interaction at the governments and private sectors’ level to explore the potential of bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation.

Underlining the need for more connectivity and interaction at different levels between the two countries, he added, there was an immense potential and big scope to uplift two-way trade and investment by way of joint ventures in different sectors. He maintained that the present government was taking practical steps to strengthen the bilateral relations in diverse sectors including education, health, tourism, sports etc besides enhancing people-to-people ties.
