QUETTA: Aurat Foundation organized a Consultative workshop here Tuesday to hold consultation about Child Marriage bill. Members of Assembly, civil society, media, UN Women, UNHCR and Islamic scholars attended.
A presentation was made on Child Marriage Bill. Resident Director Aurat Foundation highlighted the importance and utility of this bill and also covered problems related to it.
Mohtarma Saima Haroon apprised the participants of present statistics of small age marriage in Pakistan.
Justice (R ) Kelash Nath Kohli introduced Child Marriage Bill and sought opinion f the participants on it.
Members of assembly unanimously appreciated draft of the said bill and said that it is need of hour there should be legislation over it and it should be implemented.
Participants also gave an opinion that a working group should be formed on the draft and it should remain in contact with MPAs. All the proposals would be made part of the bill. It would also play its role for implementation of the bill once it is made law.
Members of Working Group including MPAs, Islamic Scholars, Secretary Women Development, Law Department expressed the hope that headway on the bill would be accelerated and legislation should be made at the earliest.
