QUETTA:,,, Almighty Allah has blessed Balochistan with a vast area and important sea which is around 1100 Km. Legally Government of Balochistan has authority of fishing upto 12 nautical miles. It also includes stopping illegal fishing, guidance to fishermen and providing them with facilities by government.
This was stated by Adviser on Finance Khalid Langav in his budget 2014-15 speech in Balochistan assembly here Thursday afternoon.
He said this sea line of Arabian sea was providing employment to around 50 thousand people. 012 million tonnes of fish is caught annual from the sea which fetches Rupees 9 billion. There are 38 landing sites along the coastal belt. Of these 11sites have been identified where fisheries can be developed.
He said long coastal belt of Balochistan rich in sea life has been gripped by bhatta mafia. Use of illegal net has made people hand to mouth and they are faced with unemployment and genocide of sea life. Our government he added was serious to impose complete ban on illegal fishing and use of nets and improving living and business of fishermen. He aid rupees 549.925 million have been allocated for fisheries 4 percent higher than current year.
With the assistance of International Fund for Agriculture development of the United Nations fishermen would be provided with coast to market roads in two sea districts of Gwadar and Lasbella at accost of Rupees 3 billion. The project would be completed much ahead of schedule.
Eight workshops would be setup for repair of launches in fishing areas along Coastal belt of Balochistan at a cost of Rupees 20 million. Semi cold fish hatchery would be setup in Subakzai Dam in Zhob.
Fish processing unit at Pasni would be activated at accost of Rupees 25 million. Launches used for fishing would also be upgraded.
