QUETTA: Final phase of local bodies elections was completed in Balochistan Wednesday with election of Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Chairmen and Deputy chairmen.
Dr Kaleemullah was elected Mayor Metropolitan Corporation and Yunus Baloch Deputy Mayor. Dr Kaleemulalh scored 54 votes while Yunus Baloch got 56 votes.
Malik Naeem Bazai was elected Chairman District Council and Asmatullah Bazai as Deputy Chairman.
According to details final phase of local bodies election was successfully completed in the province with oath taking of elected councilors and election of Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen. This followed pressure of political parties and protest.
Elections for Mayor and Deputy Mayor Metropolitan Corporation were held here today under the supervision of District Presiding officer Assistant Commissioner Tariq Mengal. Polling began at 9 am and continued till 5 pm. Eighty four of the total 86 councilors exercised their right of franchise. One Councilor Mohammad Rahim Kakar (PML-N) boycotted the polls while one member was stopped by Supreme Court from casting vote.
Dr Kaleemullah fielded by Watan Dost Panel of the allied parties secured 54 votes. His closest rival Abdul Qahir Achakzai from All Parties Democratic Alliance bagged 14 votes and PTI candidate Malik Khuda Bakhsh 4 votes.
Watan Dost panel candidate Yunus Baloch remained successful with 54 votes. His rival APDA candidate Raza Wakeel got 14 votes. Twelve votes were rejected.
For Quetta District Council APDA candidate Malik Mohammad Naeem Bazai was elected Chairman and Asmatullah Bazai (PMAP) was elected Deputy Chairman.
Elections of Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen in other districts were also held.
