QUETTA: Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai and chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik have urged strict and effective measures for improving educational atmosphere and standard of public sector universities in the province particularly University of Balochistan. They said measures should also be taken for elimination of trend of cheating at the universities so that these are cleansed of menace of cheating.
They expressed these viewed at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Governor to review performance of public sector universities and financial problems. Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch also attended the meeting.
Adviser to Chief Minister Raza Muhammad Barech, Additional Chief Secretary Development, Secretary Finance, principal Secretary to Governor, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Vice chancellors of Balochistan University, Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences, Balochistan University of Engineering Technology Khuzdar, Lasbella University, University of Turbat and Loralai were also present.
Governor and Chief Minister said that financial problems of these universities would also be resolved and funds would be allocated for their development projects at the next annual budget. They also called upon Higher Education Commission and Federal government for providing funds for these universities on regular basis and they should be exempted from deductions.
Chief Minister said that such meeting should be held periodically so that problems of universities should be reviewed and steps taken for their solution.
Preclinical secretary to Governor Abdul Jabbar briefed the meeting on financial position of these university and their problems. He told that HEC allocates Rupees 1.5 billion for these universities annually while government of Balochistan has provided rupees 500 million grant during the past three years. He said Rupees 1234 million have been earmarked for 12 projects of these universities while only Rupees 38 million have been released so far. He said public sector Universities are faced with financial constraints and there is need to remove it.
All the vice Chancellors briefed the meeting and apprised performance and financial difficulties of their institutions.
