QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister while describing unforgettable sacrifices of journalists for a peaceful and democratic society and security or human rights announced Rupees 20 million for their welfare fund and constituted two committees for implementation of wage board award and making amendment in the act for payment compensation to the heirs and relatives of journalists killed during discharge of their professional obligations by terror acts.
He made these announcements during his talks with journalists who staged a sit in (dharna) in front of provincial assembly here Thursday. Sit in was staged on the call of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists in support of their demands in front of four provincial assemblies and parliament House.
Earlier journalists took out a rally from Press Club and after passing through various roads in reached in front of Balochistan assembly and staged a sit in. It was led by President BUJ Irfan Saeed. Journalists carried placards and banners inscribed with demands for security of journalists and payment of compensation to the heirs and relatives of martyred journalists.
Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch accompanied by Information Minister Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti, Health Minister Rehmat Saleh Baloch, Excise and Taxation Minister Shaikh Jaffar Mandokhel, MPAs Nasrullah Zere, Mohtarma Dr Ruqqiyah Hashmi Mohtarma Dr Shama Ishaq, Secretary Information Abdullah Jan and others came to journalists.
Irfan Saeed apprised them of problems of journalists.
Chief Minister assured journalists that his government fully believes in democracy and respect to human rights, Sacrifices rendered by journalists for democracy and human rights are praise worthy. He said government from day one has taken serious steps for resolving journalists’ problems. No doubt he added large number of journalists have embraced martyrdom during duty.
He told that fir the first time issuance of advertisements to the newspapers has been ensures without commission. It is aimed at to stop economic murder of journalists. He appreciated efforts of Information Minister.
He announced to constitute tow committees for security or journalists and media Houses and withdrawal of cases registered under Anti Terrorism Act against newspapers and journalists with Home Minister as head and for wage board award and other benefits under the leadership of Information Minister.
He said act would be amended for the payment of compensation of relatives and heirs of martyred journalists so that they could also get compensation on the patters of government employees and forces personnel.
He also announced Rupees 20 million for Journalists Welfare Fund. He said our policy for journalists who rendered sacrifices is very clear. They have struggled for establishing a better society and democracy. He said Government of Balochistan would take measures for arrest of terrorists involved in killing of journalists and would take action against them through a task force.
Information Minister Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal said resolving problems of journalists is our reasonability. He said for the first time advertisements were being issued without commission. If anyone receives commission journalists should bring it to our notice. He urged journalists to cooperate with them. All their problems would be resolved mutually.
Amir Jamaat Islami Balochistan Abdul Mateen Akhundzada, Leader of Ghulaman e Sahaba Muhammad Rafiq Mengal and other political and social people attended the dharna, expressed solidarity with journalists and called upon the government to take concrete measures for the security of journalists.
