Law, order improved to great extent during the past one year: CM


QUETTA: Law and order situation has improved to a great extent during the past one year. Federal government has empowered provincial government for holding talks with Nationalist leaders. Owing to government measures incidents of killings of political workers and recovery of dead bodies minimized.

These views were expressed by Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch while speaking to participants of 15 th National Management Course which called on him under the leadership of Chief Instructor Khwaja Shokat Hussain here Thursday.

Provincial Minister Mujeebur Rehman Muhammad Hasni, Political Adviser to C M Khair Jan Baloch, Additional Chief Secretary Ali Zaheer Hazara, Secretary Home Akbar Hussain Durrani and others were present at the meeting.

Dr Malik Baloch said that when coalition government came into existence Balochistan was not only confronting with law and order problem but others as well. With the cooperation of all parties included in the government, IG Police and

Security forces law and order situation has improved and efforts were underway for further improving it. He said Balochistan is situated in a conflict zone and its borders are linked with Afghanistan and Iran. He said during the past three decades extremist was prompted in the country. It also developed sectarianism and terrorism in Balochistan. He said ongoing insurgency has caused massive loss to the province and hundreds of professors, lecturers and teachers were forced to migrate to other provinces. However due to practical measures of the government now law and order was improving and crimes have declined to a great extent.

Chief Minister said government was reorganizing police and police was giving training by Army so that it could play its role against crimes as an effective force. He said all appointments and transfers in Police were being done on Merit.

He said Balochistan is gripped by serious crisis of energy. To end this crisis Dadu-Khuzdar and D G Khan-Loralai transmission Lines were being completed. He aid Prime Minister has infuriated Uch Power-2 which would pour electricity into national system to meet energy crisis.

He said provincial government was taking serious steps for promotion of agriculture. Owing to shortage of water and energy more than 30 million acres of arable land is lying unattended while lakhs of cusecs of rain water goes waste annually. There is dire need for building dams in this connection. If agriculture would develop there will be remarkable reduction in poverty.

Referring to Gwadar Port, Chief Minister said though Port was built but there was no communication system there. Road network was almost nonexistent. Now work on Turbat-Hoshab-Panjgur-Ratto Dero was underway speedily.

He aid government was also taking measures for the promotion of education and education budget has been increased to 24 percent form present 4 percent. However still there is more to do in this regard. He aid present government was establishing six universities and three medical colleges while steps were being taken to increase capacity of teachers, providing basic facilities and overcome teachers shortage.

About Dera Bugti chief Minister said that major development took place in the country from gas found in Dera Bugti 57 years ago but Dera Bugti itself is a backward district.

Answering questions asked by participants Chief Minister said due to killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti situation in Balochistan was very badly affected and armed insurgency started in areas where there is no example in the past.
