QUETTA: Electricity arrears have soared to Rupees 1.03 trillion against consumers till March 2014. These are equal to almost half of provincial government budget. Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) on the directives on the directives of Federal Ministry of Water and power has decided to increase load shedding duration in areas where consumers were not paying their electricity bills.
According to QESCO Spokesman here Monday of Rupees1.03 trillion there are Rupees 81 billion outstanding against agri consumers only. Provincial government departments owe Rupees 5.2 billion, federal government Rupees 594.4 billion while commercial, domestic and other consumers have to pay Rupees 6.12 billion.
Chief Executive QESCO Engineer Baleeghuz Zaman has constituted four teams in the light of directives of Federal government which would take action against defaulters and disconnect their electricity connections in the province. These teams would submit their reports on daily basis to Commercial Officer QESCO.
QESCO purchases electricity and then sells it to the consumers. It cannot supply electricity to any consumer without payment. It has therefore appealed to all defaulters particularly agri consumers to pay their bills in time and clear outstanding arrears and safe this company.
