Rs. 20 crore to be recovered from corrupt elements of Mineral Deptt; Ziaullah Afridi


Peshawar: Advisor to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ziaullah Afridi has said that the government has unearthed illegal practices and corruption of millions of rupees in the Mineral department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The government had conducted an enquiry and ordered for recovery of Rs. 20 crore from those who committed corruption and irregularity.

An immediate suspension of four officers including the then Director General of Mines and Minerals Mian Farooq Iqbal, Deputy Director Irfanullah, Deputy Director Roz Amin and Deputy Director Yaqoob Nawaz have been recommended, he added.

This was disclosed by Ziaullah Afridi during an interaction with Media at his office this morning. He said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf after coming into power had decided to go whole hog for transparent and open governance in the province and would not spare anybody if changed with corruption and irregularities adding he was given a portfolio of Minerals Department and received complaints about the illegal practices and corruption cases in various sections of the department particularly irregularities in leasing of mines.

He recommended the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to move the Provincial Inspection Team to conduct an enquiry for fixing responsibility.

The enquiry recommended the recovery of Rs. 20 crore from those who committed corruption and irregularity in the department during the previous government, he added.

The inquiry has also recommended revamping and restructuring of the department by taking action against those corrupt officers who were found involved in advocating parties instead of the government. It has also been recommended in the inquiry report that court cases are pursued vigorously and monthly progress reports be submitted to the Chief Minister in this regard.

A disciplinary action has also been recommended against ex Director General and three other Deputy Directors of the Mines and Minerals Department.

Mr. Ziaullah Afridi said that irregularities and corrupt practices were committed during the previous rule and his government initiated action against the responsible. He assured he would not allow any body in his department to commit any sort of corruption, irregularity or favour.
