Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed Sindh police to submit comments on a petition of five female assistant sub inspectors (ASIs) who are seeking promotions to next rank.
A division bench of SHC headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar gave this direction while hearing a petition filed by five female ASIs including Naila Razzaq, Uzma Khan, Shazia Parveen, Ashi Waheed and Hina Mughal.
The petitioners through their counsel told the bench that out 17 ASIs, only seven were promoted to post of sub inspector in 2008 and later 10 ASI were promoted to next in 2009.
They said that police department passed an order on March 31, 2012 and demoted them to their previous rank. The petitioners argued that Supreme Court had struck down the out of turn promotions in the Sindh police but they were granted promotions on regular basis and did not come in ambit of out of turn promotions, despite the fact they were reverted back.
They prayed to the court to direct Sindh police to promote them to next rank. The hearing of case was adjourned to January 16, 2014.
