Karachi: Pakistan’s junior hockey team failed to put a good show in New Delhi, where they made a first round exit – even failing to qualify for the quarterfinal stage of Junior Hockey World Cup.
After a 6-1 thrashing at the hand of Germany, Pakistan failed to pull a much needed victory against Belgium and drew the match 2-2 even after initially taking a 2-0 lead.
Belgium topped Group A with seven points followed by Germany with six points. The two European sides qualified for the quarterfinals of the high profile tournament from Group A. Pakistan led only minnows Egypt in the group with four points.
After a goalless first half, Mohammad Dilbar broke the ice scoring twice in the second half to put Pakistan 2-0 up. However, Belgians gathered themselves and scored twice to confirm that they would be entering knockout rounds without conceding a single defeat.
