Sudan’s Bashir holds talks with Ethiopian PM Ahmed in Beijing

Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir met here on Sunday with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, during which they discussed developing bilateral relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing peace and security in the Horn of Africa region.

The meeting was held as African leaders are gathering in Beijing for a summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), scheduled for September 3-4, aimed at building a closer China-Africa community with a shared future and further dovetail China's Belt and Road Initiative with African development.

President Bashir briefed Prime Minister Ahmed, who is also the chairman of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), on the progress achieved in South Sudan's peace process. The meeting also tackled the efforts of Sudan to realize peace in the Central African Republic (CAR), in light of the encouraging start of the first talks between the disputing parties.
