’Taliban Committee’s importance announcement soon’

KARACHI: The Taliban-nominated committee for peace talks with the government was hopeful for restoration of dialogue process, saying if the same not resumed, the committee would make an importance announcement in a next few days, said Maulana Yousaf Shah, spokesman of the Taliban committee, while talking to PPI on phone on Tuesday evening from Akora Khattak.

He said that the government and the Taliban committees had informal contacts to each other and both sides were trying to end the deadlock in dialogue process. “We are hopeful for resumption of talks within next few days,” he said.

To a question, he said that there were very slim chances of unconditional and unilateral ceasefire announcement by Taliban as the government demands. “We are hopeful that the government would show some flexibility in this regard, but if it did not happen and the deadlock stayed we will have to show our position and will make an importance announced within next few days,” he said.

To another question he said that he did not know about rifts between different groups of Taliban, and the causes of the killing of Asmatullah Shaheen and his colleagues.

Responding to a query, he said that he did not think that the change in policy of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on the issue of dialogue process would increase any pressure on the militants.
